Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in contributing to Glasgow Discovered. Please review these guidelines before submitting a hidden gem.

What We're Looking For

  • Hidden or lesser-known places - Not major tourist attractions, but overlooked spots with character
  • Accessible to the public - Places people can actually visit (even if access is limited)
  • Located in Glasgow - Or immediately adjacent areas
  • Interesting stories - History, architecture, atmosphere, community significance
  • Respectful of residents - Not private residences or spaces where visitors would cause disruption

Content Standards

Descriptions

Your submission should include:

  • Clear location information (neighborhood, nearby landmarks, or address)
  • What makes the place special or interesting
  • Any relevant historical context you're aware of
  • Access information (hours, any restrictions, accessibility notes)
  • How to find it (especially if it's genuinely hidden)

Accuracy

Please ensure all information is accurate to the best of your knowledge. We verify submissions before publication, but starting with correct information helps everyone.

Image and Copyright Policy

This is critically important. By submitting images, you certify that:

  • You own the copyright to any images you submit, OR
  • You have explicit permission from the copyright holder to submit them for publication, OR
  • The images are in the public domain or available under a compatible Creative Commons license

Street Art and Murals

Street art and murals are protected by copyright. Unless you are the artist or have obtained explicit permission, do not submit photographs of murals. Instead:

  • Describe the artwork and its location in text
  • Provide links to official sources or the artist's website
  • Let us know it exists and we'll investigate appropriate licensing

Buildings and Architecture

Photographs of buildings taken from public spaces for documentary purposes are generally acceptable in UK law. However, be mindful of:

  • Modern architectural works may still be under copyright
  • Interior photographs require permission from the property owner
  • Privacy of residents—avoid capturing people or looking into windows

What We Cannot Accept

  • Images downloaded from the internet without permission
  • Professional photographs by others (even if freely available online)
  • Screenshots of other people's work
  • Images that include identifiable people without their consent
  • 2D reproductions of artwork (including murals) unless you own the copyright

Moderation Process

All submissions go through a review process:

  1. Your submission is received and acknowledgment sent to your email
  2. We verify the location and information accuracy
  3. We check image licensing and appropriateness
  4. We may contact you for clarification or additional information
  5. If approved, the place is added to the site with credit to you (if desired)
  6. If rejected, we'll explain why and whether revisions could make it acceptable

This process typically takes 3-7 days, though complex submissions may take longer.

Credit and Attribution

We're happy to credit contributors by name (or pseudonym) if you wish. During submission, you can indicate your preference. We respect requests for anonymity.

License Grant

By submitting content, you grant Glasgow Discovered a perpetual, non-exclusive license to publish your text and images on the site and in related promotional materials. You retain copyright ownership and can use your content elsewhere.
